After crossing the vast plains of northern Texas and eastern New Mexico we have landed at the Bonito Hollow RV Park and Campground near Ruidoso in South Central New Mexico.

Strider, our intrepid motorhome, is firmly planted in her home for the next month or two as we begin a period of volunteer work called Work Camping (sometimes spelled Workamping).

The opportunity allows us to save a little on expenses while getting to know and enjoy the local area more thoroughly. In trade for a full hook-up site and some other perks we help the camp managers perform daily operation and maintenance tasks for part of each week.

The rest of the week we will venture out to explore the local sights, both natural and man-made, in the surrounding area of this beautiful state.

We’ve already hiked in the nearby mountains with new friends who are also work camping this season, driven around some of the local towns and scoped out some of the numerous sights we want to see.

Some RV’ers do this continuously, moving with the seasons. We look forward to seeing how this arrangement works out for us as we make plans for the winter months.
